5-axis machining: Complete in one setup
Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH has been a leading specialist in the demanding 4- and 5-axis machining of complex geometries for decades. We offer these capabilities in all of our CNC machining centers. Our 4- and 5- axis machines offer an advantage over 3-axis machines, since 3-axis machines have feed axes only in the X, Y and Z directions. This results in limited abilities to produce complex geometries. For example, to engage the workpiece at an angle, the workpiece must be removed from the fixture and inserted into a new fixture during 3-axis machining. On the other hand, 5-axis milling with CNC machining centers from SW very often enable complete machining in just one setup. This saves time and eliminates the need to re-measure the workpiece position after the fixture change. In addition, you reduce chip-to-chip times in machining and achieve better surfaces. With 5-axis machining, you can increase efficiency and precision in your production.
Precision in all axes
In addition to three-axis machining in the X, Y and Z directions, SW machines also enable 4- and 5-axis machining. We realize the fourth axis and the fifth axis via backlash-free rotary axes driven by torque motors. The 4- and 5-axis machining significantly reduces cycle times and improves the quality of machining because it eliminates tolerances of a second setup.
The tool magazine of the machines has a modular capacity of up to 280 tools. The automatic tool change enables a wide variety of operations such as CNC milling and drilling, as well as interpolation turning with the shortest non-productive times. The Technology People also develop customized fixtures for your workpieces, the matching NC programs and tools, as well as highly efficient automation tailored to your needs.
Highly dynamic, even with highly complex geometries
Maximize efficiency in your production with 5-axis simultaneous machining. With SW’s linear drive technology, the drives can be specially adapted for the required 5-axis simultaneous machining in order to “tune” the machine’s high dynamics to the maximum, even for complex axis movements. This enables the machines to manufacture the most demanding workpiece geometries, including compressor wheels or medical implants, highly efficiently and with the best surface quality.
