Who is SW?

SW is a supplier of single- and multi-spindle horizontal CNC machining centers, automation, and complete systems. We’re a trusted single-source provider to companies in various industries, including automotive, EV, firearms, medical, construction, aerospace, and more.

What is Mechatronics?

The word Mechatronics itself is a combination of the words Mechanical and Electronic. At its core, it’s the hands-on work that makes sure advanced machinery functions as designed – electronically, mechanically, and with computer control. As an apprentice at SW, you’ll learn electronic circuitry, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems and robotics that will give you the knowledge to build, repair, and improve next-generation machinery and technology.

How does the apprenticeship program at SW work?

The apprenticeship at SW provides a mix of classroom and on-the-job training while you earn your associate degree in Mechatronics Technology. SW is a proud host of the MAT2 Apprenticeships Program, which is based on a German model, and even sponsored by the German American Chamber of Commerce.

Throughout the three-year apprenticeship, you will rotate approximately every eight weeks between attending classes at Henry Ford College (HFC) and working at our facility in New Hudson, MI.

During both school and work periods, you’ll receive a stipend for food and gas. When you’re not in classes, you’ll have the opportunity to put your new skills into action in the real world while earning a regular paycheck. SW also has a dedicated Apprentice Trainer who will support you throughout your educational journey.

After completing the three-year program, you’ll have an associate degree in Mechatronics Technology from Henry Ford College, completely paid for by SW. You pay us back by completing two years of employment at SW after the program. Of course, we hope you’ll stay with us long-term!

What about the Global Student Exchange Program?

Expand both your technical and cultural knowledge with our global exchange program! During your 3-year apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to spend several weeks at our headquarters in Waldmössingen, Germany. You will rotate through various departments and participate in exciting activities with your American and German peers. In exchange, SW North America will welcome several German Apprentices for a visit each year, allowing them the chance to improve their English, experience the American culture, and get to know you!
